SYNOPSIS

Leonardo is soon to be wed. He loves his fiancé, Attrition, dearly although she shares no enthusiasm for his life's ambition, inventing. She feels that his painting is good and encourages him to go get a job doing portraits.

As the play begins, he is in his lab gluing together a model of what is now known as the helicopter. This was an odd invention for the 15th century, primarily because most people believed that flying could only be accomplished by the use of feathers (much in the same way people reasoned that the earth must be flat or we'd fall off).

Leonardo's fiancé does not believe the machine will work, even after numerous tests, which she witnesses herself, that utilize a hamster driven wooden model in a wind tunnel, and she isn't suited, emotionally, for the public spectacle that an inventor's wife must become, so she goes out and falls in love with Michelangelo, who she feels is a good, hard-working artist. Leonardo is devastated when he learns of the affair. He has lost his true love to his life long rival, Michaelangelo, and more importantly, his helicopter does not fly, causing him public humiliation.
